Let’s Get Personal… It’s All About PROGRESS!

What comes to mind when you think of this word?

For me, it’s my experience with self confidence. As a fashion blogger, I am accustomed to standing in the middle of a busy street while my photographer snaps away…

People generally think I find it easy, and that I’m totally relaxed about it…

However, it wasn’t always the case.

I remember the first time I decided to take the plunge and photograph an outfit publicly, as opposed to the safety of my back garden. I really pushed myself to the limit and decided that the middle of Dublin city would be my shooting location.

I was in the city for the day for an introductory camera course , following the purchase of my first ever DSLR camera. I was SO excited about learning more about the art of photography and using it to build my blog. I was in great form when the course had ended and we made our way to the location I had decided on for our shoot…

However, things soon took a turn for the worse…

I began shaking and got myself so worked up. I just couldn’t handle by standers staring at me and nearly didn’t go through with it…

And this is coming from a singer! Someone used to performing on stage to hundreds of people…

I was absolutely PETRIFIED

But overtime, it slowly became EASIER.

Then (One of my first ever blog shoot’s… In my back garden!)

Each new shoot was a stepping stone, gradually building my self-confidence up…

Slowly but surely, day by day, I became happier in my own skin. More comfortable sharing my personality with my peers.

I was becoming less afraid of what people thought about me…

I shifted my focus.

Instead of wasting my time worrying about what people (who I am not even in contact with anymore) would think of me, I focused on what I thought about MYSELF, and what made ME happy…

… And that was blogging, and sharing my style with my readers.

My point is: Although not everything comes overnight, if you remain FOCUSED and keep your EYES on the PRIZE, it will be SO WORTH IT when you get to where you want to be.

Working towards a goal is so exciting, and you just can’t beat that feeling of pure satisfaction upon achieving it.

So what is progression?

Progression is transforming from a shy, timid teenager with no self-confidence, to a young woman who is now confident enough in her own skin to stand in the middle of a city street, pulling crazy faces and modelling at the same time.

Progression is becoming a young woman who can now look herself in the mirror and say, ‘I like you’.

NOW: This shot was taken during London Fashion Week which I attended last season, and shot in the centre of London city ;)

SO, how can you progress with your business?

Maybe you are nervous about cold-calling clients? – Start scheduling calls with them.

Maybe you are scared of what might not happen for you? – Shift your focus. Write down your goals and read them aloud to yourself daily. This is something I practise myself and it makes you BELIEVE in your journey.

For me, I was holding myself back. I was too afraid to put myself out there which meant worrying myself for no reason and reaping no results.

At times, I wanted to give up and hide in my bedroom, but instead I kept choosing public locations and I kept shooting new outfits…

I remained PERSISTENT.

Whatever it is you find to be holding you back in your business, don’t avoid it. DEAL with it.

Find a way to overcome the obstacle and make PROGRESS. Just one step at a time and it can make a hell of a difference. ;)
